The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for a Human Resource Benefits Coordinator position in the Personnel Division located at State Police Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This is an Exempt position; therefore this position is excluded from the provisions of the Fair labor Standards Act due to the nature of job duties and responsibilities.
DUTIES: Process health insurance forms and Flexible Benefits forms and updates the Benefit Eligibility System to! ensure that employee claims are properly paid. Respond to inq! uiries and resolve problems effectively. Provide benefit information to employees during orientation and open enrollment. Provide services to employees at the field divisions. Complete records, forms and correspondence and forward to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). Process retirement estimates and provide retirement counseling to agency employees. Serves as the Advanced Person Processor in the VRS Navigator (VNAV) system. Order certificates and plaques quarterly for retirees and Long Term Disability (LTD) participants. Coordinate CommonHealth Program and communicate and distribute information to increase awareness of program benefits. Arrange for three programs per year, including the annual Flu Shot Program. Prepare lesson plans and present material in a clear and understandable manner. Remain up-to-date on Line of Duty benefits and pending legislation.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of the principles and practices o! f human resource management to include benefit programs. Working knowledge of the federal and state laws that pertain to human resource management. Working knowledge of training materials. Demonstrated skill in the use of a personal computer, to include Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Demonstrated ability to compute retirement benefits; to research, analyze and collect data; to work independently; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to present and develop training programs; and to work as a team player. This position will cross train in other disciplines of the benefits section. A degree from a college or university preferred; however, experience and specialized training is acceptable. Considerable experience in administering employee benefits programs to include health benefits, retirement, life insurance and deferred compensation.
