Incumbent ! demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients in the assigned area of practice.
The incumbent is accountable for providing examinations to unvested patients for the Richmond VA Medical Center through the Geriatric and Extended Care Service, along with providing evaluation and management of any identified acute medical problems. Additionally the incumbent will assist in serving at risk veterans in Rural Communities and within the Geriatric and Extended Care Service as directed by the Rural Health Medical Director.
The Physcian Asssitant(PA) is responsible for the initial assessment, identifying patient medical problems, defining the clinical management of identified problems, determining need for consultation to subspecialty care and referring to primary care for assignment of a primary care provider for future care. The PA will work in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to outpatient clinic, mobi! le clinic and home visits. Ability to maintain ongoing collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing staff and other health team members is essential. The PA provides care within a defined scope of practice.
Duties: Salary: Commensurate with experience and education/determined by Physician Assistant Professional Standards Board.
Work schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00AM - 4:30 PM

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :
Education/Training -
A bachelor's degree from a Physician Assistant training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); OR,
Graduation from a Physician Assistant training program of at least 12 m! onths duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree! in a health care occupation or a health-related science; OR,
Graduation from a Physician Assistant training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.
CERTIFICATION: As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified Physician Assistants on VA rolls as of that date.
