The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) will assist the Integrated Neurology Progam and is directly responsible to the Director, Epilepsy Center of Excellence (ECoE, and has accountability to the Chief, Neurology Service at the McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond, VA. The duties for this position may include:
Engage in primary health care decision making; obtain advanced competencies and skills for assessing physical and psychosocial health/illness status of individuals, families, and groups.
Promote health maintenance and protection against disease.
Manage the care of certain patients/clients within the scope of preparation an! d accountability.
Accountable for the primary care of outpatients assigned to the NE Epilepsy Center of Excellence.
Collaborate with the residents, support the inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and the activities of the ECoE.
Assist in virtual care provided to patients and through the education of staff utilizing telehealth capabilities, including, but not limited to clinical virtual telehealth and SCAN-ECHO modalities.
Coordinates the admission, transfer, and discharge of epilepsy patients assuring that patient testing, history, and physical exams, discharge planning, and education are completed.
Responsible for performance improvement projects within the Neurology Service/ECoE and monitors and improve customer service to patients.
Review and revise patient care based on clinical findings and assessment while following approved clinical protocols and privileges.
Conducts or participates in research and provides an! d implements a related plan of care.
Develops protocols or clinical! pathways to standardize care for the epilepsy patient to expedite patient processing and care delivery.
Triages patient/family/agency telephone calls regarding patient care issues for ECoE to expedite timely resolution and address early patient access to clinicians as appropriate.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
LICENSURE: Current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) with authorization to prescribe medications a! nd schedule 2 narcotics.
CERTIFICATION: Must maintain full and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body (the certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an NLN-AC accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) http://nlnac.org/home.htm

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease,! illness and hazardous materials.
