The Transition Coordinator plays an important role in VCUâ??s quest to achieve the global engagement of students, scholars, faculty, and staff that transforms lives and communities! . The position is housed in the Global Education Office and supports international student success by conceptualizing, developing, and ensuring a smooth transition for newly admitted international students enrolling in baccalaureate and graduate courses, particularly exiting English Language Program (ELP) students. The Transition Coordinator serves as a user-friendly resource for international students and scholars and the campus community alike, including assisting international student and scholars by informing, advising, and supporting them in their last months in ELP and beyond. The Transition Coordinator is responsible for: serving as the primary contact for international students seeking support in educational counseling, academic advising, and resource referral; providing and supporting other staff in providing educational counseling, academic advising, and resource referral to international students; offering GRE preparation for international students; and offering ! targeted support to international students on Academic Warning! & Probation. This position reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Programs. Job Duties are, but not limited to: â?¢ offering specialized educational counseling and academic advising to undergraduate and graduate international students and scholars emerging / emerged from from ELP â?¢ referring undergraduate and graduate international students and scholars (especially those emerging / emerged from ELP) to appropriate resources across the University and beyond â?¢ offering graduate application advising for international students â?¢ providing â??proactive advisingâ?? for international students on Academic Warning and Probation, with a focus on emerged ELP students â?¢ liaising with faculty and academic advisors across the University with particular reference to former ELP students â?¢ serving as a resource to and supporting GEO staff, particularly ELP faculty, in serving international students and scholars, particularly those enrolled in, ! emerging from, or emerged from ELP â?¢ developing and delivering a Level-3-ELP academic preparation curriculum, in collaboration with ELP faculty, offering courses and experiences to maximize ELP studentsâ?? success in academic courses â?¢ teaching selected courses in ELP and/or the University College â?¢ overseeing Transition Orientation in ELP studentsâ?? last term in ELP
Minimum Qualifications
Masterâ??s Degree in relevant field preferred. Several years experience working successfully with international students and/or English language learners; demonstrated advising and curriculum development skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU; demonstrated ability to articulate a vision for international studentsâ?? and scholarsâ?? effective transition to success in University courses; de! monstrated ability to ensure a high degree of customer satisfaction wit! h processes and programs; demonstrated willingness to support institutional initiatives to promote student success; ability to travel within the U.S. At least six months living or working oversees and/or fluency in a language other than English desirable.
