Controls Engineer

Dominion Transmission has an opening for an Engineer II in our Richmond, VA office. As an Engineer II you will design, support, and evaluate automation and control systems to ensure efficient, safe and profitable facility an! d pipeline operations. 1) design, develop and program software for real time programmable logic controllers (PLC) and distributed process control systems (DCS)
2) design and develop graphical user screens utilized within human machine interfaces (HMI's)
3) design and configure control communication networks
4) configure desktop operator workstations
5) design process control flow diagrams
6) design piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDâs)
7) procure control instrumentation and digital process control equipment
8) develop specifications for instrumentation, electrical power requirements, hazardous location electronic control equipment
9) develop material requisitions; review bids for equipment and service contracts
10) design digital electronic control panel drawings for placement in hazardous location
11) coordinate control system start-up and commissioning
12) support, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic con! trol systems
13) provide time and costs estimates for auto! mation projects
14) evaluate development costs, review software and drawings, consult with vendors and users, and recommend
15) contracting or internal development; coordinate efforts of system/vendor personnel during implementation
16) develop technical documentation, training manuals, and standard operating procedures; conduct training classes for system users Knowledge, Skills & Abilities You must demonstrate via resume or cover letter that you have met the Required Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors in Engineering or Engineering Technology degree with PE license required. (See Education section for details)
2 years or more of relevant work experience or post-graduate (masters degree) required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Course work or experience with programming software systems that interface with the physical world. Strong troubleshooting skills Knowledge of engineering principles, standards and practices. Ability to! plan, organize, and schedule work independently. Strong communication, teaming, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated advanced-level computer skills.
Prefer:
Degree in Electrical , Control Systems and/or Computer Engineering, Knowledge of communication protocols.
Knowledge of electrical circuit design. Education
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, one of the following criteria must be met:
1) Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based upon the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
2) Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the countryâs own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the countryâs accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
3) Possess a 4-year engineering! degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineer! ing degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
4) Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
5) Holds a current valid Professional Engineer license . Working Conditions
Work schedule typically Monday to Friday with extended hours as needed to accomplish goals. Out of town travel including some weekends will be required; subject to rotating on-call. Office work environment with visits to construction sites as necessary to ensure successful completion of projects; may be subject to construction hazards, inclement weather conditions, and high noise levels; safety-sensitive position subject to random drug ! testing; pre-employment drug test will be required for successful candidate; must possess a valid driver's license.
